Abraham is a key figure in the biblical narrative and a significant character in other religions too. In Islam he is known as Ibrahim and his first son Ishmael is regarded as the father of the Arab people.

What is interesting about the story of Amed Abraham is that he was the first person to recognise that there could be only one God of heaven and earth. This led to the development of monotheism.

The Bible tells of how God called a man called Abram to leave his home country in order to follow a special plan for himself and his descendants. It was a time when people believed in many different gods but God gave Abram three promises: he would have a relationship with Him, numerous descendents and land.

Abraham’s story is also important because it shows how much faith he had in God. He was not afraid to go where he was told, even if it meant leaving everything he knew behind. He was willing to sacrifice his son in order to demonstrate this. This was an ultimate act of trust in God and it demonstrates that God is faithful to those who show this kind of trust in Him.

But it is interesting that when it comes to Abraham’s being saved from the fire Zawadi is not quite as sure. He seems to think that just because the Quran says that the Torah (or Book of Moses) is a fully detailed revelation it doesn’t necessarily mean that it includes the story about him being delivered from the fire. This is rather odd since, if he really believes what he says about Jesus and the Scriptures, then he should accept that the Book which both Jesus and his prophet confirmed does include this story!

As for the story about being saved from the fire, it is important to note that the Bible does mention that ‘God delivered him out of Ur of the Chaldeans’. This could simply mean that the story of being saved from the flames was developed out of the biblical statement about Haran dying in the furnace when he was trying to burn his father’s idols. It is also worth pointing out that the Hebrew word for flame or fire can also be used to refer to light and that the biblical account does make it clear that the fire that consumed Haran did not burn him!
